Life changes and people move. Perhaps your family is growing and you need more space or the kids have moved out and downsizing is in the talks, whatever that may be, moving can be a factor in organizing.
I've found that people delay based on an ideal. I plan to do this or we've talked about doing that but the actions haven't really started. If the is the reality of the situation, I encourage starting the organizing process now and it may just help if and when the moving time comes. What's that saying...you never know how much stuff you have until you start packing. 'Getting Organized' starts with Simplifying and decluttering so that will help even more when the time comes. Organizing is setting things up for your success so if you've not 'officially' started the moving process, I'd encourage you to start now. When the time comes, you'll have the knowledge and comfort in knowing your personal organizing styles and how things can be setup for your success in the new place.
Now let's talk about the move is scheduled and the chaos of planning, prepping and packing is in full swing. Here are a few things I talk about when it comes to organizing along this process and the move itself. Have two boxes when packing, one to move into the next dwelling and one to put decluttered items into to move them to the donation center instead of moving truck. Now, don't get me wrong, when it's crunch time, I get it- everything gets tossed in a box and you'll just figure things out when you're unpacking but if and when possible, I'd love for you to avoid that rush.
Organizing the move itself can really help if your getting help on moving day. A small investment in markers and colored paper can really help navigate the unpacking boxes from the truck. If a color is designated to a space, let's say kiddos room is blue, I would tape a blue colored paper above the doorway in the new place and use blue markers to write on the box. Maybe you use the same paper on the actual moving boxes or find tape that matches instead but if the box is clearly marked and the space it goes to is also marked, not only is directing people and things lessened a little, the boxes randomly being dropped wherever is a little less often too.
Moving can be stressful enough in itself so knowing your style for success prior to or organizing the day of can be great was to less that stress a little.
